Arming store associates with data about a shopper and product information helps them to provide a more personalized experience to the consumer. Using social interactions as a visual focal point in a store can help positively influence shoppers. Virtual dressing rooms allow shoppers to virtually try on outfits in-store or at home. And data gathered from the dressing room can inform product recommendations and customer insight. Similarly, interactive displays attract shoppers by sending rich media to their mobile devices when they pick up a product. Transitioning to an omnichannel experience can be daunting, but Cognizant can help retailers succeed in this new, digital environment. The future of retail is investigated by CNBC's Industrial Revolutions. As the use of the internet and smartphones changes the consumer shopping experience, CNBC takes a look at some new initiatives. Subscribe to CNBC International: http://bit.ly/1eiWsDq The rise of the Internet Retailer has radically changed our high streets revolutionizing the way we shop. Over the past four years online spending has grown 75 percent while the High Street struggles to achieve flat growth. Consumers prefer the convenience of logging on to lining up. Will the trend continue? CNBC's Industrial Revolutions goes shopping. "The internet has taken a lot of people out of the shopping centers", Daniel Kitchen, representative of the Swan Center, tells CNBC. Daniel believes the technology and the Internet can help bring people back onto the high street and into centers again. The Swan shopping center in Hampshire believe they have found the solution linking clicks to bricks. TagPoints is a mobile loyalty and proximity marketing tool. TagPoints enable shopping centers and retailers to engage with their customers through a mobile application instore or in the center. TagPoints can communicate directly with customers and deliver hyper-relevant messages straight to their mobile phone via the app. TagPoints technology goes beyond traditional loyalty schemes and enables retailers to offer customers real-time personalized incentives while they're shopping but can it compete with the ease of online retail? To get that face-to-face experience to touch and feel the product will always be important there's now a trend of how we use technology to enhance the shopping experience rather than use technology to be the only shopping experience. As shopping centers begin to recognize the importance of the human touch how can online commerce compete to bring the benefits of real-world shopping into the home? Sayduck is one of many companies using augmented reality to enhance the shopping experience. The technology superimposes a 3D model of the product you want to see on top of the camera view on your mobile device so it looks like you already have that product at home. Could it become an every day reality? Sayduck believe this is a complete game changer in terms of how people shop in a couple of years. Time will tell if the High Street can embrace technology to optimize customer experience and win back hearts, minds, and wallets. Whatever the future, retailers expecting to stay at the top of consumer shopping lists we need to provide increasingly personalized service. The way people shop has changed. Shopping is now a form of entertainment , available 24/7, wherever people are. Retailers need to ensure that the brand experience is seamless and constant at all touch points. The demand is here for retailers to embrace omni-channel shopping, breaking down the barriers between the digital and high street retail experiences. Integration with social media is key - from consultations with friends, researching reviews and sharing selfies, today's shoppers want to engage in social media throughout their shopping experience! "Buy it now" has turned into "Hold. Consider. Consult." 82% of smart-phone users use a shopping cart to create a wish list of items. They research products before buying and 66% of millennials consult friends before making a purchase. Social media will also be central to future loyalty programmes, rewarding brand ambassadors for social shares as much as - if not more than - the amount they purchase. We are only beginning to see how smart-phones can bring the digital experience into the store. People are integrating mobile into shopping - 59% have used a mobile phone to research a product before purchasing it in store, while a third look at an item in the store before buying online. Existing beacon and Bluetooth technologies can help retailers replicate the personalised online experience shoppers love by recognising loyal customers and alerting them to deals on items they like. Mobile can also improve the payment experience, reducing the time spent in queues, or do away with queues all together as the mobile checkout goes to the customer. This connected retail experience should also extend to loyalty rewards, which studies have shown people would like delivered directly to their phones. Why Visa? The face of retail will continue to change as consumption patterns evolve, supported by new channels, new payment tech and new buying opportunities. Visa Europe is developing innovative products such as tokenisation for data security so people can shop with confidence wherever they are, whatever device they're using

Emerging practices in omnichannel retailing are redefining the utilities of brick and mortar retail in the advancement of a seamless flow of information, inventory, and consumers. Whether it is the design of packaging or interactive in-store experiences, nearly every facet of the retail supply chain is being reimagined. With the life-cycles of products and stores being compressed in time and space, new retail models are set to challenge the conventions of leisure and necessity consumption. This event seeks to identify critical accelerants of technology and process innovation that are likely to steer the next generation of retail. Speakers will include Rajiv Lal, Stanley Roth, Sr. Professor of Retailing at Harvard Business School; Eric Symon, Vice President, Global Retail Business Unit, PTC; and Neil Blumenthal, Co-Founder & Co-CEO, Warby Parker. Lal, Symon, and Blumenthal will join Craig Robins, CEO and President, DACRA, in a panel discussion moderated by Jesse M. Keenan, Lecturer in Architecture & Real Estate.
